382nd Week - One Can A Week Food Donation Program

Hi Folks,

This Week's Happenings in photos and graphics

A Fond Farewell to One Can A Week

It is only fitting that the One Can A Week Food Donation Program follow President Obama into the sunset. After all, it was at his request to “just do something” that motivated me to create One Can A Week to help the Community Food  Bank of Southern Arizona meet its overwhelming demand.

A lot has happened since January, 2009. In 382 weeks, we—my 7 volunteers, Sprouts Farmers Market, Rincon Market, Axis Food Mart, Miles School, Ward 6, Peppie’s House (TMC), Dot Kret Associates,  the Shiva Vista Neighborhood, the Miles Neighborhood, Maui Convenience Center, Maui Smoke Shop and the Muslim Community Center—have donated more than 150,000 lbs. of food and over $34,000 without skipping a beat.

The Community Food Bank still has very high demand but the shelves are not as bare as they were when we started. On the President’s side of the ledger, he was able to secure affordable health care for millions upon millions of needy folks.

Of course, there will always be a need for food and health care but now it’s time for others to pick up the gauntlet. I have not had a vacation in over 7 years so it’s time for me to take care of myself.

Not sure what I will do next but there is one thing for sure … my One Can A Week participants will always be in my thoughts. Thank you from all you help over the years.

Sunday, May 8th will be the last pick up in the Miles Neighborhood.

Best regards,

Peter
